I just finished chapter 7. Up until then it can be somewhat discouraging but hang in there. Chapter seven is worth the price alone. Maybe read it first even. Everything he talks about i came to understand during an in depth study of martin luthers works last year, but it is so refreshing to hear. Reading chapter seven should be done weekly as we so quickly forget. If you want a true understanding of grace and the freedom and rest and joy it should bring to life then read this. So many christians live miserable guilt ridden lives because we are never taught what it really means or if we are we forget. Everything is explained simply with good relatable stories, and i love how he makes the temple such a visual and real illustration of gods grace, and how he explains repentance.Product details

I have thought many times I need to search the scriptures for the truth about conscience and write a book. Nope, God had it covered!!
This book is pure gold for the Christian who wants a living faith, full of peace & joy & pleasing to God. Christopher Ash's writing is accessible, interesting, relevant, warm & inspiring. He gives this much neglected topic proper emphasis. Highly recommended for any believer who wants to grow and mature in their walk with the Lord.
Shortly after I became a Christian, I became acquainted with my conscience. I can't even describe how astonishing this discovery was to me. How truly amazing! It was honestly like I had choices for the first time ever because before this, I would have done what I wanted without even considering anything or anyone else. Where is the choice in that? True choice comes from thinking of others sometimes. Being led to do something--and you know you don't have to do it, you can do what you want. But doing the good/hard thing anyway.
I would marvel at this inner direction that I was not aware of before. I remember telling a friend that there was so much happiness when I did the good things I felt led to do. And when I did things I felt that I shouldn't, it bothered me until I corrected it.
I would have really benefited from this book then, and I am so glad to be reading it now. It answers the questions I have had over the years such as why do I sense so strongly that something is wrong when others don't feel the same way, and can I really always trust the guidance I receive.
The author has done a fabulous job of researching the book and sticking to what the Bible says. I think, it would benefit all Christians.
It contains too many Calvinistic (and related) doctrinal prejudices, which render the overall analysis and recommendations futile, muddy, forced and far from the what is clearly conveyed in the Bible on the issue of a clear conscience and a pure heart. It's a pity.

This book is a MUST READ for every person who wants to be able to live with a clean, guilt-free conscience before God and man. I was so impacted by it that I am taking several copies as gifts to the Philippines in a few weeks.
